“Art is not a thing, it is a way.”
Artist Conversation:
Why did you choose landscape painting as your artistic subject?
Hei Nam: "In front of nature, one always feels humble, and it's this humility that led me to choose watercolor, a smaller medium in the realm of painting. The places I’ve walked—mountains, fields, and seaside—deeply fascinate me. These unremarkable little scenes are like fragments of life that form another way for me to view the world."
It seems that painting increasingly occupies your life and is slowly becoming your profession. Have you ever thought about becoming a full-time artist?
Hei Nam: "Life is full of coincidences, intertwined with inevitability, transforming like watercolor in its enchanting complexity. Every time I think about everything before painting, I find myself reflecting on myself afterward. I know that what I see is not what I think, and what I think is not what I paint. There’s always some force in nature that leads me to move forward."
